SCORE Rd#4 is in the books. We once again had a great time with our friends at Phil Hurd Raceway. Thanks to Roger Cowart, Patrick Rossiter Jr., and Drew Singer for the tremendous amount of time spent prepping the track for the race. It was no small feat after getting 8 inches of rain earlier in the week. Patrick Rossiter Jr. ran a great race program as usual and kept us laughing throughout the day.

Ronan TQ’ed and won novice, again. I struggled finding the right tires for him due to heavy watering of the track. I took the Rainmaster (M4) off my car and put on his for the main. His car was planted for the first time all day. They still had over 50% of the tread left after the qualifiers and main.

Aidan ran his new Xray XB2D’21 this week after only running 2 packs through it to break in the ball diff and set the slipper. He did great in the first qualifier, but I did not have the proper tires for him when they watered the track in Q2 and Q3. He ended up qualifying 4th. In the main, he ran second the first 2/3 of the race but had a couple of bobbles that dropped him to fourth. He finished 4th and less than a second behind 3rd. I had his slipper set way too loose in the main, and he was lacking any pull out of the corners. Great first outing with a new car in a very competitive class. I only had to make some small setup changes to the car. Aidan is stoked for the 1/10 only Snap Hard race at PHR the second weekend in October.

I ran my Xray XB8 as usual. I managed to win all qualifiers to TQ Nitro Buggy. The car was hooked up on Rainmaster (M4) in the qualifiers. In the main, I ran a used set of Gripz (M3) after giving the Rainmasters to Ronan. The car was even better as the track had grooved in a few places and the moisture level was down. I had a two-lap lead on the field when a wreck caused the shock shaft to pull out of the ball join with almost 3 minutes left. I kept on running with 3 driveshaft and 3 shocks. I was still up by a half lap on 2nd when I wrecked on the straight going into the last turn. The marshal did not see where I wrecked and put me on the wrong side of the pipe right in front of finish line. I had to wait for him to get my car and move it to the proper location while second place caught up and passed me. Still managed to finish second with a broken car which is not too bad. Congrats to Jay Amanti on the win. Thanks again to Roger for pitting me on a hectic day with a small turnout.

With one points race left, I have Nitro Buggy overall win locked up with the drop. I have two TQ’s, one win, and three second place finishes this season. Ronan missed a race due to covid quarantine but is sitting at the top going into the final race. He has two TQ’s, two wins, and one second going into the final. Aidan switched classes mid-season, so he is not in contention for either class.

Thanks again to Dialed-RC Hobbies and VP PRO for the great tires that keep our cars glued to the track. We are looking forward to trying the new 1/10 tires when they arrive later this year.
